Research Heroes of the Month - February 2023
This month thank you to Finance - one of our Corporate Services supporting research projects
Research heroes are individuals who are part of a hidden army of staff supporting research across the organisation. We want to take the opportunity to celebrate their contribution and thank them for making a difference.
This month’s Research Hero is slightly different, as it isn’t someone who delivers research
but someone who provides research finance support to the R&D Team – our Finance Lead, Angela Elliot.
Research finance is complex, and ever changing! We get a large proportion of our funding externally through grants and other sources. Without the support of services such as finance to manage this, no research could happen. This shows the importance of the infrastructure around research being in place to allow it to deliver.
Angela is extremely efficient, in particular as the research portfolio is only a small part of her role. We would therefore like to thank her for her contribution and continued support and name her as this month’s Research Hero.
We would also take this opportunity to thank all corporate services that support research including HR, IT, Communications, Informatics and many more…
Angela said: “I’m grateful and humbled to be named this month. R&D is very different to other budgets, and I very much enjoy the variety it brings to my role, overseeing finances for projects often over several years involving multiple organisations. Having developed close working relationships with the R&D staff, with mutual support and team working, it’s a pleasure to work alongside the R&D department.”
