New Non-executive Director to chair Audit Committee

The Trust welcomes Martin Wright to the Board

Retired finance expert, Martin Wright, has joined the Board of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as a Non-executive Director and has been appointed as chair of the Audit Committee.

Before retirement, Martin was the Deputy Chief Finance Officer for DLA Piper International – one of the largest global law firms. He managed an international team of finance staff which provided support for more than 4,000 lawyers operating in more than 30 countries around the world.

He was responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and control, including treasury, taxation and financial planning.  During his career, Martin worked in Melbourne (Australia) and Hong Kong as well as London and Sheffield.

Martin now lives in Harrogate and is a trustee of two charities there: a walk-in support service in the town centre and an organisation managing a group of almshouses.

In his spare time, Martin enjoys sailing and he owns a narrowboat, which he uses as much as possible to explore the canals of England.

“My financial background means I have a lot to offer the Trust and I am relishing the new challenge of chairing the Audit Committee and assuring the Board that the Trust’s finances are shipshape!” said Martin.

Trust Chair, Professor Sue Proctor, welcomed Martin to the Board of Directors, saying: “We’re really pleased that Martin has chosen to offer his financial expertise to our Board. I’m sure he will be guiding the Audit Committee to carefully scrutinise our activity and make it clear where and how we spend precious NHS money.”
