Congratulations to German, our STAR Award winner

Pharmacist, German, worked at The Newsam Centre.

One of the Trust’s pharmacists, who used his initiative and passion for IT to implement an online prescribing system, has been recognised with a STAR Award.

German Espino Garcia was nominated for the award by a handful of his colleagues who described him as ‘enthusiastic’ and ‘dedicated’.

German worked at the Trust for seven years before leaving at the end of March to return to his native country, Lanzarote. On receiving his award, German said: “I’m completely shocked by this award, but what a nice note to end my time here on. It’s nice recognition of the job I’ve done.

“I’ve worked with some fantastic people during my time here, not just in pharmacy but doctors, nurses and health support workers from across the Trust.”

Reflecting on his time at the Trust, German said: “I’m very proud to have implemented MedChart, which was designed to be used in acute settings not in mental health. There were a few challenges of course, but we have found work-arounds.”

Elaine Weston, Chief Pharmacist, said: “I nominated German because I think the Trust should recognise all the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm that he demonstrated in the development and implementation of the trust-wide electronic system that improves so many people’s lives – staff and service users.

“He has worked tirelessly to ensure this project is a success, using both his skills as both a pharmacist and his IT knowledge.”

The STAR Awards recognise staff who go above and beyond the call of duty and are passionate about providing the best possible service to service users, carers and staff. Each month’s winner receives £100 in high street vouchers, a framed certificate and an invitation to the Trust’s annual awards night.
