To celebrate Black History Month members of our Workforce and Race Equality Network (WREN) have put together a fantastic series of activities throughout October. All colleagues are welcome!

Week commencing 5th October

WREN meeting 8th October focusing on the history of the West Indian Carnival.

Special guests: Dr Arthur France MBE, founder member of Leeds West Indian Carnival (LWIC) and Hughbon Candor, internationally respected West Indian Carnival costume designer.

Week commencing 12th October
Flag Day celebration. Network members will showcase facts about their country and display their birth country flags
Inpatient services are invited to take part in Flag Day and submit photos of their flag displays

 

Week commencing 19th October

WREN Stories on Black History Month by Sharon Prince, Strategic Lead for Psychology and Psychotherapy
An Audience with: Comedian Daliso Chaponda – performing on the 30th October 4-5pm

Laughter is the one of the best way to BOOST your wellbeing and the WREN network invites you to come along and have a laugh with them.

Daliso Chaponda shot to fame on ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent and has gone on to amass over 100 million YouTube views as a result.

Daliso has written and starred in two seasons of his critically acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Citizen of Nowhere as well as appearing on BBC4’s The Now Show.

He has also recently appeared on BBC2’s QI as well as several times on BBC2’s The Apprentice: You’re Fired.

Daliso began his comedy career in Canada with the acclaimed one man show ‘Feed This Black Man’. Following this, he began honing his craft in comedy clubs and theatres throughout the UK and around the world.

In addition to stand-up comedy, Daliso is also a prolific fiction writer. He has published science fiction, murder mysteries and fantasy fiction in numerous magazines and anthologies.
