Sue White

Role:Deputy Chair and Chair of the Finance and Performance Committee

Sue was appointed as a non-executive director at our Trust on 7 November 2016 for a period of three years.

What I do

My role on the Board is to hold the Chief Executive and her executive team to account for the delivery of the organisation’s strategic aims and objectives.  I am also the Chair of the Finance and Performance Committee and a member of the Mental Health Legislation Committee.

How I contribute to improving the experience of service users and carers

By holding the executive directors to account I am able to ensure that services are provided in the most effective and efficient way. As a member of the Mental Health Legislation Committee I want to make sure that we correctly apply mental health legislation. This includes ensuring that we correctly review the detention of service users who are either detained under the Mental Health Act or who have been placed on Community Treatment Orders (CTOs), and that we discharge those service users who no longer meet the criteria to be detained or are subject to a CTO.

I also have a passion for ensuring that the services our Trust provides are of a high quality and that service users are at the heart of everything we do.

My experience

I have recently retired as the Chief Executive and Company Secretary for Voluntary Action Sheffield (VAS) where I had responsibility for strategic and operational leadership and for the leadership and representation of the voluntary and community sector in the city. Before this I worked for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as Business Development and External Affairs Director and also worked for the Department of Health as Head of Social Enterprise Unit.

I am able to bring to the Board experience of working in the complex environment of health and social care and in building partnerships at local, regional, national and international level.
