World Mental Health Day 2018

Wednesday 10 October is World Mental Health Day and this year’s focus is on young people and mental health in a changing world.

Mental ill health often starts in young adulthood, when change and uncertainty is common.  Changing schools, leaving home, and starting university or a new job can be exciting times, but they can also be times of stress and apprehension.

The growing use of online technologies and social media can also bring additional pressures.

With 1 in 10 children experiencing a mental health issue, it’s vital that we give young people access to the support they need to grow up happy, healthy and resilient.

We provide a number of specialist services for young people including:

To access any of these services, referrals need to be made via your GP or other appropriate healthcare professional.

Young SUN

Young SUN is our Service User Network for people under 25 who have accessed secondary mental health services or are young carers for people with mental health issues.

This group gives you the chance to have your say in mental health care planning and offers an opportunity to get out and meet people like yourself in a safe space.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 14 November from 4pm to 5.30pm at Carers Leeds, 6-8 The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 6PT.

You can find out more on our Service Users Network (SUN) page.

Mental health drop-in sessions

A programme of drop-in sessions launched to support people in Leeds who are struggling with their mental health is being expanded and will now be offered city-wide.

The sessions are run by a team from the Trust, in partnership with Yorkshire-based mental health and wellbeing charity, Touchstone.

They’re open to anyone in need of support with their mental health or who may be feeling isolated or alone.
