Research Forum 2024

On Thursday 14 March 2024 we hosted our annual Research Forum. As well as highlighting the research that has taken place in the Trust in the previous year, one of the aims of the day is to bring together Trust staff and the wider research community. Each year we try to reach a wider group of people who may not have had much previous experience of research.

This year’s event was held at Cloth Hall Court, Leeds and had a jam-packed programme featuring the impact curated art has on the mental health of young people at our new Red Kite View site to the effect of interpersonal process recall for offenders in the Personality Disorder Pathway. We were pleased to see a range of speakers delivering studies this year including a pre-recorded PPI (Patient and public involvement) representative speaking on social coaching intervention for people with psychosis, and how they feel benefitted from being a part of this research.
Here are some of the quotes from the day:

“Very engaging talks, presenters clearly passionate about their research.”

“Really well pitched, good use of slides and videos. Not too academic.”

“All presenters were very engaging; you could see the passion of their particular area of interest.”

“The subjects covered felt very “real life” and relatable to day-to-day practice. The presenters were spoke with great passion and confidence.”

To break up the day and get people moving we hosted a series of concurrent workshops. Delegates were asked to pick from three workshops available ‘Mini version of 360° research management training’, ‘Mini version of Writing for publication’ or ‘Facilitated networking / making connections’.

“The group work at the end was very immersive and sparked a lot of conversation and deeper thoughts on the health care support work world I had not previously thought about. Speakers in both presentations and workshops were interactive and captivating.”

“Workshop was excellent.”

“Workshops were really useful I appreciated the time for networking.”

“[The] Workshop was really educational, it always nice to see the passion from colleagues alike, really motivates me to see this.”

The event saw several research-related posters displayed which were reviewed and judged by delegates on the day and received cash prizes. First prize went to Amy Pratt for “Impact of inpatient menus on cardiometabolic risk factors” and second prize went to Elizabeth Frost, Nafeesah Ali, Chelsey Holford and Annalisa McGorlick for “An exploration of research assistant’s perspectives of applying trauma informed care principles to research”.

To help chair the event we were supported by our Clinical leads, Old Age Liaison Psychiatrist, George Crowther and Clare Fenton, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. We were also supported on the day by Dr Frances Healey, Non-executive Director, and Dr Sara Munro, Chief Executive, who provided closing words on the event. Sara wrote in a recent paper:

“A very strong theme in the presentations was on co-production with service users from the outset of deciding if a topic is worth investigating and if so how best to go about it. Huge thanks to Sarah Cooper and her team.”
