Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services - York and North Yorkshire

Willow View Day Services

Willow View is a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Day Service in York which is part of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. It provides services for people in York and North Yorkshire.

Who is likely to attend Willow View?

Most young people facing mental health challenges are seen at home or in the community by their community CAMHS team. However, if a young person’s needs are deemed more severe and possibly require more intensive support, then a referral to Willow View may be appropriate. This could be because the person has multiple and complex needs related to disordered eating, neurodiversity, emotional and or behaviour problems, or has suffered trauma which compounds their mental health challenges.

A young person referred to us, will work with several members of our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) at Willow View. The MDT is made up of a psychiatrist, a doctor, a psychologist, a family therapist, two nurses, an occupational therapist, a dietician and a therapy assistant. Each young person will have a named professional assigned to them as a case worker while at Willow View. The MDT will work alongside members of the community teams who will continue to be involved in the young person’s care and treatment.

The young person and their family/carers will be encouraged and expected to participate in the assessment, formulation and care planning process. Each young person will have their own individualised care plan and treatment options based on their needs and goals. Treatments and interventions may be delivered in small groups, on a 1:1 basis or with the young person’s family present. These can take place at Willow View, in the home or in a community setting. Interventions may include psychoeducation, self-management and life skills, understanding and managing moods and feelings, confidence building, personal identity and self-esteem work, and meal support. Anyone attending Willow View for care treatment will have their physical health monitored by our medical team.

The service will be open from 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday. Each young person will have an individual timetable clearly outlining when they have appointments, sessions and mealtimes at Willow View.

Willow View is adjacent to the inpatient CAMHS unit at Mill Lodge in York. It has its own entrance and exclusive areas. There is a lounge, dining room, group room, clinic room, as well as a toilet and garden that is for the sole use of those using the Day Service. Willow View has been designed to be sensory friendly and areas can be adapted to meet additional sensory and communication needs. Staff do not wear uniforms.

Willow View Day Service will cater for up to eight young people at a time who are likely to have a range of mental health challenges and be able to use the service on an informal basis. Our aim is to provide an alternative to hospital admission that enables the young person to remain close to home and connected to their family and community lives.
