Social media

We use social media as a way of keeping our service users, staff, carers, partners and visitors up-to-date on the latest news about our Trust and this page offers some guidelines on how we use social media.

What is social media?

Social media covers various online and mobile technology tools which enable people to communicate easily and share information and resources. Social media can include text, audio, video, images, podcasts and other multimedia communications.

Our main corporate social media accounts are:

Our latest blogs and details of upcoming events are also available on the news pages of our website.

Our social media channels are managed by our Trust’s Communications Team and you can send any questions or comments about our use of social media to us at:

How do we use social media?

We share lots of different information on our social media sites, including:

  • news, media releases and events relevant to people and services in Leeds and York
  • general information about mental health and learning disabilities
  • retweets and shared links from other health and social care agencies, voluntary sector organisations and partners such as Time to Change.

When are we available on social media?

We monitor social media activity during office hours and will always do our best to get back to anyone who contacts us as quickly as possible.

We don’t routinely monitor social media out of office hours or on the rare occasions our internet service is unavailable. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm.

Our Communications Team and our Engagement Team attend many events which take place during the week and occasionally at weekends and we often tweet from these events to share what is happening with our followers.

Replies and direct messages

We are not able respond to clinical or medical questions via our social media sites, but we will signpost you to where to get information, advice or support.

Twitter guidelines

We follow users who are relevant to our organisation, for example health and social care agencies and voluntary sector organisations. We do not automatically follow people or organisations that follow us.

Following other people or organisations does not imply endorsement of any kind on the part of our Trust.

Facebook guidelines

We would like to encourage people who ‘like’ or ‘follow’ our Facebook page to get involved in conversation with us. We will always remove any unsuitable content as soon as we become aware of it. We are only responsible for content uploaded by our Communications or Engagement teams.

Other social media platforms

We have other social media sites including YouTube. YouTube is set-up to host our multimedia content such as pictures and videos. This site is linked in directly to our Facebook and Twitter accounts to help provide a more interactive online presence. Content is managed by our Communications Team and we will remove any unsuitable or offensive comments about our content as soon as we become aware of them.

We are supporting and encouraging staff and services to use social media to share information about their work and to connect with people and organisations online. We hope to update this section in the future as more of our professionals and services develop an online presence.

A set of guidelines have been developed jointly by health and social care organisations in Leeds. We have worked together on the guidelines to help staff who use, or are considering using, social media across the four organisations in a professional capacity. We hope you will find them helpful, but please remember they are guidelines, not rules! They are for employees of the following organisations:

  • Leeds City Council
  • Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
  • Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust
  • Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

You can read the social media guidelines here. They will be reviewed again during Summer 2017 and an updated version will be provided here when available. If you have any questions, please contact the relevant communications team.

Press and media

Our Trust’s Twitter stream and Facebook page are not intended for use by the media, however, we are happy for news stories to be taken from our feeds. If you are a member of the media and have a query or concern, please contact our Communications Team on 0113 855 5989 or email

More information on our Communications Team can be found in our media area.
