Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) Service

Referral information

We are an outpatient adult service and accept referrals for individuals aged 17 and over. Referrals are accepted from within the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) area (in Leeds), which is part of the wider West Yorkshire Integrated Care System (WYICS). This includes:

  • Bradford District and Craven
  • Calderdale
  • Kirklees
  • Leeds
  • Wakefield District

We accept referrals for people with all severities of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).

Diagnostic Information

There is currently no single test that confirms ME/CFS. Diagnosis relies largely on a detailed history of symptoms and the exclusion of other conditions that may cause similar symptoms.

Referral Requirements

We kindly ask referrers to review our referral criteria and consider other relevant services close to the patient’s registered GP practice.

To avoid delays, it is essential that the following are included in every referral:

  • All sections of the referral form fully completed
  • Blood tests and investigations specified in our Primary Care Guide
  • Patient summary
  • Current medications list
  • Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Any relevant information from secondary care relating to symptoms

Please note: Missing information accounts for 40% of re‑referrals into our service and leads to avoidable delays.

For further guidance, please read our ME/CFS Primary Care Guide.
