A poem about coronavirus #LDWeek2020

A poem by Ann Watherston, a manager with the Specialised Supported Living Service

Along came a virus no one has ever seen before,

Who knew what 2020 had in store.

Face masks, shields, gloves and aprons galore,

Who would see our faces once more!

Chaos and despair affecting us all,

We are still here behind the PPE we call!

Communication we’re used to is gone and hidden,

Cuddles and comfort are all but

Forbidden.

No more going out, the garden became our sanctuary,

Thankful for the sunshine, this space became necessary.

Outdoor cinema, gardening, sensory spaces they became,

A place to adhere to the 2 metre distancing game!

Facebook became our way of keeping in touch,

Creativity and imagination never too much.

Competitions to keep up the spirit,

Until the government allows our families to visit.

FaceTime and video calling became a new way of life,

Zoom and technology causing us strife.

Letter and photos sent with loving meaning,

While the rest of the time was taken up with cleaning !!!

Shielding and self isolating was the name of the game,

Covid 19 was the only one to blame!

Strength and resilience is what SSL’s is all about,

Our fantastic teams and management keep going throughout.

Our teams became the family we

Couldn’t see,

Supporting each other no matter what would be.
