"We will remember them"

Trust hosts two remembrance services for Armistice Day 2025.

On Armistice Day 2025, staff and service users at the Trust’s Becklin Centre welcomed the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Michael Fox, as a guest of honour to participate in a special service of remembrance, led by our Chaplaincy Team.

The service at the Becklin Centre was one of two conducted by our Chaplaincy Team on 11 November for people to come together and pay respects to all those in the armed forces, including veterans and reservists, who had served and are serving.

We also had over 100 members of staff joined a virtual service held by our lead Chaplain Laurence McGonnell.

What is Armistice Day?

Armistice is a Latin word meaning “an agreement between opposing armies to suspend hostilities in order to discuss peace terms; or a truce.”

The Armistice was an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations. It began at 11am on 11 November 1918.

Armistice Day is marked around the United Kingdom with a two-minute silence at 11am, on the 11th day, of the 11th month.

Armistice Day is particularly important to LYPFT as we are one of the few NHS trusts in England that provides the Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. Known as Op COURAGE, this service offers specialist care and support for those due to leave the armed forces, reservists and those who’ve already left.
