Our first member of staff having the Covid vaccine - Theresa Jackson
The first person at LYPFT to receive the vaccine was Theresa Jackson, Health Care Assistant in the vaccination team, but her usual role is a Perinatal Community Nursery Nurse.
This week has been a landmark event for Leeds, as we have delivered the first COVID-19 vaccines.
Frontline health and social care staff from across the city are among the first to receive the vaccine, along with care home staff and patients aged 80 and above who are already attending hospital as an outpatient or being discharged after a hospital stay.
Theresa Jackson, Perinatal Community Nursery Nurse Health, has also volunteered to be a Care Assistant in our vaccination team, and was the first person at LYPFT to receive the vaccine.
Theresa said: “I wanted the vaccine to help protect the people I come into contact with, such as my patients, and colleagues, as well as my family and friends. I also wanted to protect myself from illness and help work towards life resuming some sense of normality again.”
You can hear more from Theresa in the video below where she talks about her experience of having the vaccine
The work involved in bringing this moment together is a tremendous achievement and another example of partners across the city working together to ensure we are ready to deliver the biggest immunisation programme in the history of the NHS.
We will continue to expand the groups of health and care staff being offered the vaccine as further supplies become available and other hubs across the city are able to receive deliveries.
