Ivan Nip
Constituency: Public, Leeds
elected to the : Council of Governors
I have served as a LYPFT governor since 2018 and am now serving in my third and final term as a governor. I am a local authority employee with over 30 years voluntary experiences. I have been a trustee of an advocacy organisation supporting mental health patients for 11 years. I am passionate about the NHS, about excellent care, and about advocating against health inequality. In the past, I have had the opportunities to work with the senior management team (SMT) and have witnessed the Trust being upgraded from an overall rating of “requires improvement” to its current overall rating of “good” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
I am proud to have been able to be involved in the “Red Kite View” hospital which was built in 2022 and it serves children and young people. I am also a member of the Appointments and Remuneration Committee which has been involved with the appointment of a Chair of the Trust and six Non-executive Directors to support the SMT since the start of my appointment.
LYPFT is facing immense challenges, such as workforce, storage, an aging population, a fragile economy, among others. I believe that by acting as a “critical friend” and with my existing working relationship with the Board of Directors, I can contribute to the Trust achieving positive outcomes despite these challenges.
My priorities as a governor are to ensure:
- Your voice is heard by the Senior Management Team.
- Resources are focused on patients’ needs in the face of a funding scarcity.
- Supporting the recruitment of more doctors, nurses, and the implementation of the “NHS People Plan”.
- Consolidate the standards which resulted in a “good” rating by the CQC, with an eye to moving towards an “excellent” rating.
