Screening for autism in the memory clinic

Interview study looking at people attending memory clinics to find out how common autistic traits are and how they relate to memory problems.

What is the study about?
The aim of this study is to find out how common autism or autistic traits are among people attending memory clinics, and to explore whether there is any relationship between autism and memory problems, including dementia. By identifying autistic traits in older adults the researchers hope to better understand how autism may influence memory difficulties and mental health, ultimately improving how memory services support this group.

What is involved?
Participants will be asked to complete a one‑off autism screening questionnaire (the RAADS‑14), after which the researchers review their routine memory‑assessment results.

Who can take part?
Participants will be:

• Those referred to Memory Assessment Service for initial diagnostic assessment. Not those who have an established diagnosis of learning disability or lack capacity to consent to participate in the study.
