Feasibility and Acceptability Study of Scalable Biomarkers of Brain Health (FAST)

FAST- Brain Health Biomarker Study for adults over 50 years, with or without memory related diagnoses

What is this study about?
This study will consider how changes in the memory and thinking skills, or cognition, relate to changes that can be determined from blood samples.
The overall aim of this study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of collecting blood samples and doing cognitive tests remotely using a computer or tablet device.

Who can take part?
Participants will be aged 50 years and above, and must be able to travel to the study site in Kippax, LS25. Participants may be:

  1. A cognitively healthy volunteer
  2. Diagnosed with Dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment
  3. Recorded by the GP as presenting with memory complaints

What is involved?
A researcher will contact you to discuss the study and address your questions, then you will sign an informed consent form. You will have two blood sample collections (up to 30ml), at the start of the study and at a 12-month follow-up. You will take a computer-based memory test three times: at the start, 6 months, and 12 months. You will be asked to complete a short study questionnaire about the process you have followed.

How can people get involved?
Through Join Dementia Research, or by contacting Beccy Smith by email rebecca.smith179@nhs.net or telephone 07977 327580.
