ADAPT: Alzheimer’s disease Diagnosis And Plasma P-Tau217

ADAPT- a trial exploring the use of Plasma p-Tau217 in Memory Assessment Clinic diagnostics.

What is the study about?
ADAPT aims to find out whether a new blood test called P-tau217 can help us to find out whether or not someone has Alzheimer’s disease earlier and more accurately.

What is involved?
This study involves an initial assessment to confirm eligibility, including reviewing medical notes, completing consent forms and questionnaires about your health, wellbeing, medications, lifestyle and support, and providing a blood sample. Participants are then randomly assigned to receive their blood test result either at 3 months or 12 months. Participants then attend memory clinic appointments or telephone follow-ups at 3, 6, 12 and 15 months to complete additional questionnaires. Participants are required to have a study partner involved in some assessments. Researchers will also collect information about diagnoses and treatments from the memory clinic.

Who can take part?
The participant will be:

1. Aged ≥ 50 years.
2. Referred to NHS memory service, being seen for first appointment.
3. Presence of a cognitive complaint by the patient (and/or study partner).
4. History of progressive decline in the opinion of the investigator.
5. Objective evidence for impairment as evidenced by any of MMSE < 28, MOCA < 28, ACE-III < 90, RUDAS < 28 in an appropriate language.
6. Alzheimer’s disease is a diagnostic consideration, with a presentation of either Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or mild or moderate dementia.
7. Able to nominate a study partner who has regular contact (at least weekly) who is willing and able to provide consent.
8. Willing and able to provide consent (including via a proxy)
