Research Hero of the Month – June 2025
Denise is the R&D team’s leading referrer, consistently connecting more individuals with research opportunities than any other staff member in our trust!
As a dedicated memory service nurse, she talks to all of her service users about research and in doing so, instils enthusiasm and hope in the patients and carer she supports.’
She always promotes research, including times when we don’t have a study available for her service users so that they can be contacted with future opportunities. As the Research Champion for her service, she encourages her colleagues to do the same.
When opening MAGNET, a study focused on supporting people with early to moderate dementia in self-managing their medication, Denise was the ideal choice for Principal Investigator (PI). Most of our studies require a clinician as PI for participant safety, and to support us in reaching potential participants. Denise enthusiastically accepted, she considered it an important area of research, recognising the difficulties that some service users have with managing their medications. We’re grateful to have had her as PI, thank you, Denise!
Denise is very humble and often downplays her vital role in research, but we want to ensure she knows that she is truly a research hero!
Denise says:
“Research is everyone’s business, without research, how will we get a cure/more advance treatments for people with memory problems and dementia? I don’t really do anything just tell my patients about research it’s the wonderful Research team that do the hard work”.
