Research Hero of the Month – July 2026

This month’s Research Hero spotlight goes to CBT therapists Christine Thompson (CMHT NE) and Joanne White (CMHT WNW) for their outstanding contribution to recruitment for the Feeling Safer study.

Christine and Joanne have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving outcomes for service users. They have carefully reviewed their caseloads, introduced the study with enthusiasm, and made thoughtful, person centred referrals. Their efforts in engaging colleagues, identifying suitable participants, and championing the value of research has helped widen access to enhanced therapeutic opportunities and contributed to better care for the future. We’re celebrating them not only for the numbers achieved, but for their dedication to making research part of everyday practice.

Christine said

“It has been a pleasure working with the R&D team. They have been highly responsive and supportive of collaborative working, ensuring that both service users and staff have opportunities to engage with new research and development initiatives, such as the Feeling Safer Programme. As a CBT-p therapist, I am particularly passionate about involving service users in discussions about evidence-based practice, especially those who may have historically been excluded, including people who experience psychosis.”

Joanne said

“Working with the R&D team has been genuinely valuable, and I feel passionate and optimistic about the research they are offering to improve treatment and outcomes for clients with psychosis. It’s been encouraging to see how intentionally the team works to reduce barriers to participation, making sure people aren’t excluded from research that’s meant to benefit them.”

We’re incredibly grateful for their enthusiasm, persistence, and genuine interest in supporting the study’s success. Christine and Joanne, thank you- you’re making a real difference.
