Psychiatric Intensive Care Service (PICU)

This service got a rating of Good from the CQC

Leeds Psychiatric Care Intensive Service (PICU) provides intensive and specialist care and treatment for adult service users with mental health needs, whose risks and behaviours cannot be managed on an open acute ward.

Practices are in line with national and professional guidance. The unit provides short term intensive support in order that service users may return to the less restrictive environment of an open acute ward and under some circumstances directly to the community.

The majority of service users admitted will require only short-term interventions to support their return to main stream acute services.

We currently have 12 bedrooms and are a mixed sex accommodation with distinct, separate gender areas. The unit has a higher level of staff to service user ratio in line with presented care needs.
