Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service
Who are we?
We are a bilingual and bicultural specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) working with deaf children and their families. We cover the North of England and have teams in York, Manchester and Newcastle.
Deaf CAMHS is nationally commissioned as a specialist service, which means there is no cost to families or local GPs.
Who we work with
- Children and young people up to the age of 18 years old who are severely to profoundly deaf and their families.
- Deaf children and young people with significant difficulties with language and communication and their families.
- Hearing and deaf children of deaf parents.
- Professionals involved in the care of these children, young people and families.
What can we do?
We know that deaf children and young people can face challenges that affect their home and school life. If you or your child is struggling, we are here to help.
We can help if a child or young person is having difficulties that are affecting their home and/or school life, for example:
- Emotional difficulties, such as depression and anxiety.
- Behavioural difficulties.
- Trauma and attachment difficulties.
- Problems with language and communication
- We also offer assessment and support for autism and ADHD.
