Learning Disability Service supporting carers

A series of blogs for #CarersWeek

Our Learning Disability Service is working hard to continue to support carers during the pandemic.

Community Learning Disability Team: “We have shared easy read information about Coronavirus produced by the Health Facilitation Team and are providing telephone support for carers.”

3 Woodland Square: “We continue to provide respite care as usual, although some families have chosen not to take this up at this time. They’ve also been offering advice and guidance by phone.”

Community Team: “We have been helping carers make contingency plans in case they become unwell, and also supporting the preparation of hospital ‘passports’ in readiness for any potential hospital admission. These are very helpful for their client group who are often non verbal or have a profound learning disability that requires lots of reasonable adjustments, and are especially useful at this time when carers cannot always be with them in hospital due to COVID-19.”

Assessment and Treatment (formally Parkside Lodge) staff: “We have daily or weekly updates to carers and have held service user reviews via Zoom enabling carers to join in.”
