A welcome message from our new Chair.

I’m the new Chair of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and I started here on 3 April.

In case you are not familiar with it, the role of an NHS foundation trust Chair is to head up the non-executive directors and hold the Chief Executive and her executive team to account on the delivery of the organisation’s strategic aims and objectives.

I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair. It will be an honour to work with staff, service users and carers, governors, members and our many partners to continue and further develop work to improve our services. The health and care environment is a challenging one and I look forward to working with the many people in this great organisation who are committed to ensuring the best possible care for all who use our services.

This is an exciting time as we’ve made quite a few new appointments in the senior team and we’re developing a new strategy which we’ll soon be sharing with you. It’s a time when we need to be working outside our traditional boundaries and form strong partnerships in the NHS and beyond to achieve our vision of “providing outstanding services as the employer of choice”.

To quote Niall Dickson, the chief executive of the NHS Confederation:

“What is being asked of health and care organisations is to set aside their own interests for the good of the wider system – and that will require new ways of thinking at local level and much stronger and more consistent support from national bodies.”

This is very true and I hope to be part of a network of system leaders who have the vision and the courage to adopt these new ways of thinking and keep focused on meeting the needs of patients, service users and carers.

As you’d expect I’ve got quite a few appointments in the diary to go out, meet key people and see some of the great work that goes on within the Trust and with our partners. Since my appointment was announced, I’ve had a few people contact me directly to invite me to come and see them, which is great and I look forward to seeing you.

If you’d like to contact me directly to meet me, invite me to a service or an event, or just for an introductory chat, please do get in touch.
