EU Referendum: A message from Susan Tyler, Director of Workforce Development

Each and every member of staff is valued and welcome

Following the outcome of last week’s EU Referendum, many of our staff who are EU nationals or from overseas may be feeling unsettled or anxious as to what this will mean for them.

I want to reassure each and every member of our staff that they are valued and welcome. The essence of providing high quality and effective care is based on a diverse and secure workforce, which is something we are very fortunate to have here at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

We value the contribution of EU workers to our organisation and recognise the part they play in helping us to deliver high quality services. This is something we can only achieve with the support of every one of our staff – whatever their country of origin.

This Trust and the wider NHS has always needed to attract talent from both the EU and from other countries and I can see no change to this position in the months and years ahead.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the contribution you all make to the Trust and the support you give to service users and carers. We are one team, working together.

I recently became aware that the HSJ has launched a new category in this year’s HSJ Awards to acknowledge the contribution EU staff make to our NHS.

I know there are many examples within this Trust where EU staff make a tangible difference to our services and service users and would encourage you to nominate your colleagues.
