Carla blogs for Mental Health Nurses Day 2022

Carla Rogers is a Practice Development Nurse (Older People’s Mental Health Service and Dementia Inpatient Service), she has shared her story for Mental Health Nurses Day 2022.

“I became a mental health nurse after witnessing the impact of palliative care that my grandma received when I was a teenager. I knew then that there was no greater job in the world.

“Across my career I have worked in open age acute settings, medium secure units and prison before settling in at The Mount for the past four years.

“I find working with older adults an incredibly rewarding career that I can be passionate and proud of. Every day is different from working with people with advancing dementias to first episode psychosis.

“I now even get to train people on how to deliver meaningful, person-centred, end of life care. I hope this sparks the same enthusiasm in others that a nurse once did for me.

“I’ve now become the nurse that I hope other young people can see and look up to.”
