York apprentice Nasser Mohammed wins national award

We are pleased to announce Nasser Mohammed as the named winner at the Our Health Heroes Awards.

A Service Desk Supervisor from Yorkshire has won a national healthcare award.  Nasser Mohammed, from York, was named winner in the Apprentice of the Year category at the Our Health Heroes Awards 2025, organised by Skills for Health.

At Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Nasser has played a key role in transforming digital services. He led the deployment of over 1,500 laptops, enabling seamless remote working and supporting more than 3,800 staff across multiple sites.

Driven by a passion for inclusion, he also took it upon himself to learn British Sign Language, enhancing communication with deaf service users. In addition, Nasser has spearheaded several innovative digital projects, including a communication tool for deaf children, a care monitoring app used in dementia wards, and an interactive puzzle app designed for individuals supported by the Learning Disability Service.

Accepting his prize at a glittering awards ceremony held in London, Nasser said:

“I’m honoured to be nominated for this award. For me, it’s always been about making a real difference, whether that’s helping a colleague work more easily from home or making services more accessible for someone who’s deaf or has a learning disability. I’m proud to be part of a team that puts people first.”

Supported by NHS England, NHS Employers, NHS Shared Business Services, NHS Race & Health Observatory, SFJ Awards and Integrated Care Journal, Skills for Health’s Our Health Heroes recognises and honours the hard work carried out daily by thousands of staff across the UK.
