New Medical Director Appointed: Dr Christian Hosker

Following a rigorous recruitment process the Trust has appointed Dr Christian Hosker as its new Medical Director

Christian Hosker is currently the Professional Lead for Psychiatry across the Trust. He has worked as a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at St James University Hospital, since 2008 and during that time has developed special interests in health care leadership, palliative care psychiatry, transplant psychiatry, medically unexplained symptoms as well as veterans’ mental health. He is additionally an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds University and had provided regular teaching on the Leeds University MRCPsych training course and the Leeds Beckett AMHP courses.

He has previously been Lead Clinician for Liaison for Liaison Psychiatry and the Associate Medical Director for Mental Health Legislation in the Trust. He has also been the Academic Secretary for the Northern and Yorkshire Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and had an active role in the British Psycho-Oncology Society Executive Committee.

Christian said, “It is an absolute honour to be appointed to the medical director role. I have been a part of the Trust for many years and I am now really looking forward to the next challenge of ensuring that those accessing our services receive the very best level of care that we can offer”

Christian will take over from Dr Claire Kenwood who will be retiring from her post as Medical Director later this year, but will returning to the Trust in a senior Quality Improvement role, taking a lead on clinical quality and continuous improvement.

Trust Chief Executive Sara Munro said, “I’d like to congratulate Chris in his appointment as Medical Director.  He is already an invaluable member of our senior team already and I look forward to working more closely with him as he joins the executive team and the board.”

Trust Chair Sue Proctor said, “I’m delighted to welcome Dr Chris Hosker as a member of the Trust Board. He is well known and highly regarded as one of our senior clinical leaders already  and I’m sure will add much to our deliberations and decision making at the Board.
