Minister of State for Health visits Red Kite View
This week, representatives from Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) welcomed Minister of State for Health (Secondary Care) Karin Smyth MP to Red Kite View, our Children and Young People's Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) unit.
Red Kite View, which opened in January 2022, provides expert therapy and treatment to some of the most vulnerable young people in West Yorkshire. During her visit, Karin Smyth MP was given a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sara Munro and Provider Collaborative Lead Timothy Richardson. The tour showcased the unit’s spacious and therapeutic environments, specifically designed to meet the needs of the young people in our care.
The Minister also had the opportunity to meet with key staff members. Tania Webb, our Family Ambassador, shared insights into her vital role in supporting families as they navigate their time with us, drawing from her personal experience. Samantha Wragg, our Recruitment and Resourcing Manager, discussed the success of our recruitment program, which brought in 80 new staff members from overseas, across the UK, and locally. This ensures that our team possesses the expertise necessary to provide safe, reliable, and effective care.
Karin Smyth MP commented on her visit, saying:
“I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the innovative, modern mental health care facilities provided in Leeds. These facilities were designed in collaboration with young people to ensure they receive excellent and expert care tailored to their needs, close to home. Without continued investment in mental health services like this, we risk more people having to receive care far from their loved ones, which can hinder their recovery. I’ve met the passionate and hard-working team and learned about the NHS Trust’s commitment to reducing employment inequality in the area by leveraging local talent.”
