Military March celebrates veterans, reservists, volunteers and other members of the Armed Forces Community.

The Leeds & York Partnership Foundation Trust workforce welcomes armed forces personnel, veterans and their families. The wealth of skills and experience they bring to the Trust is unrivalled. We continue our commitment to supporting reservists working in the NHS and broader Armed Forces community colleagues as we celebrate Military March.

LYPFT is a forces-friendly employer, so we post job opportunities directly on the Forces Family Jobs portal, the Career Transition Partnership job page and others, including the Officer’s Association jobs page. All relevant job postings are posted to these sites bi-weekly. We are committed to supporting colleagues who are members of or have spouses and family members in the Reserve or Cadet Forces, which may require them to occasionally be absent from the workplace.

  • There are between 900,000 and 1,110,000 working-age veterans currently living in the UK.
  • Around 7000,000 members of the working-age ex-service community are not in work.
  • Working-age veterans in the UK are nearly twice as likely to be unemployed as their civilian contemporaries.
  • 72% of organisations with active ex-military recruitment programmes would definitely recommend employing veterans.

As an Armed Forces member, Veteran, spouse/family, service leaver, or Reservist, you will receive a Guaranteed interview as part of the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for any job role you meet the essential criteria. If you are a member of armed forces personnel, a veteran or family, we invite you to join us. Learn more here: Armed Forces Recruitment.

Emily Bird, Widening Participation Officer:

“Step Into Health is an initiative that allows you to connect directly with an NHS Trust in a location where you’d like to work. This includes all varieties of job roles, from clinical to non-clinical. Step Into Health allows 1:1 interaction with a dedicated staff member from LYPFT. You will receive a personal message via the chat function on the SIH portal that introduces the Trust and a monthly job bulletin with specifically chosen jobs that you may want to apply to.

We will also catch up with you again a few months later to see how you’re getting on and if we can offer more support. This might be an application or interview support, specific job vacancies or any offer of volunteering or work experience to gain insight into working for LYPFT. Joining Step into Health provides a dedicated pathway into a career in the NHS.”

Veteran Aware logo

We’re very proud to be a Veteran Aware Trust. The Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance awards Veteran Aware status in recognition of our commitment to improving NHS care for veterans, reservists and armed forces members. Initially accredited in 2021, we had our one-year review approved in 2022 with significant work undertaken to deliver OPCourage services and raise awareness of the healthcare needs of the Armed Forces Community across wider teams and departments and acknowledge our commitment to veterans.

Last year we were granted the 2022 ERS Silver Award in line with NHS’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. Our commitment to ensuring the armed forces community is never disadvantaged compared to other patients and to train staff who work with veterans on veteran-specific culture or needs and as an employer supporting the armed forces. We are working towards the Gold ERS award this year, continuing our commitments to those joining or wanting to join our Trust.

Cassie Good, Head of Strategic Resourcing and Talent Development:

“Leeds and York Partnership strive to achieve Gold Award status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. As a Trust, we pledge, demonstrate and advocate support to the defence and the armed forces community and align our values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

We proactively demonstrate our forces-friendly credentials as part of our recruiting and selection processes by engaging with relevant partners for advertisement and recently introducing a guaranteed interview scheme. We actively encourage a positive environment for Reservists by ensuring that positive policies in support of the workforce are in place and communicated to those individuals and their line managers.”
