LYPFT celebrates strong performance in PLACE assessments

The recently released PLACE 2025 scores show further improvement across the Trust’s estate and care environments.

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is celebrating excellent performance following the recent release of the 2025 Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) results, which show significant improvement across all inpatient sites. PLACE 2025 was completed earlier this year, and the newly published findings highlight the Trust’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, high‑quality and inclusive care environments

PLACE assessments are led by patient representatives and evaluate the aspects of the care environment that matter most to people who use services. These include cleanliness, food, privacy and dignity, the general condition of buildings, and how well environments support people living with dementia or disabilities.

The 2025 results also sit strongly within the national context. While PLACE isn’t designed as a competitive measure, the findings show that LYPFT continues to perform well across all key areas, providing helpful assurance that our care environments are consistently meeting high standards and improving year on year.

These outcomes also highlight the impact of recent investment and development aligned to the Trust’s Strategic Estates Plan, which sets out the vision for delivering modern, therapeutic and welcoming environments across the estate.

Exceptional performance across key areas

The Trust achieved outstanding results across all assessment domains:

  • Cleanliness: 99.6% — significantly above the 98.55% national average
  • Privacy, Dignity and Wellbeing: 92.24% — well above the national average of 89.37%
  • Condition, Appearance and Maintenance: 97.47% — matching or exceeding national benchmarks
  • Ward Food: 95.28% — outperforming the national average of 92.30%
  • Dementia standards: 91.87% — compared with the national average of 85.68%
  • Disability accessibility: 91.08% — above the national average of 87.12%

These scores represent consistent year‑on‑year progress and reflect the dedication of teams across the Trust to providing safe, welcoming and accessible environments.

Continued focus on quality and improvement

LYPFT will continue to build on these results through capital investments and targeted work connected to the Strategic Estates Plan, focusing on therapeutic design, accessibility, and the overall experience of service users.

To support this momentum, the Trust has recently relaunched its Catering and Cleaning Standards Group, ensuring that all elements highlighted through the PLACE assessments are captured and responded to in a coordinated, consistent way.

A collaborative effort

This year’s strong performance reflects contributions from patient representatives, carers, governors, volunteers, Mitie colleagues and staff across the Trust.

Warren Duffy, Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities, said:

“We would like to thank all the Trust internal staff, volunteers and Mitie FM staff who contributed and participated in the 2025 PLACE Assessments, and we look forward to continuing to identify improvements to enhance the experience of our service users across the estate.

I would particularly like to thank the Estates and Facilities Team who have led on the delivery of the 2025 PLACE Assessment and who are committed to ensuring that these assessments are conducted in the manner that they are intended, putting the experience of service users in our environments at the forefront of our actions.”

Looking ahead

The release of the 2025 PLACE results provides valuable insight that will continue to shape improvements across the Trust. LYPFT remains committed to ensuring its environments support recovery, wellbeing and the delivery of high‑quality mental health and learning disability services.
