Congratulations to Daniel, our STAR Award winner

Daniel works on Ward 3 at The Becklin Centre.

The Trust’s most recent STAR Award winner is Daniel Norton, Health Support Worker on Ward 3 at The Becklin Centre.

Since arriving at Ward 3 last year, Daniel has shown ‘unwavering respect for staff and service users’.

When presenting Daniel with his award, Susan Tyler, Director of Workforce Development, said: “I get the impression everyone knows you’re a star and this award just confirms it.”

In her nomination, Alison Cameron, Occupational Therapist, said: “Dan shows no judgement of others and ensures all service users receive a high level of care.”

Alison added: “When Dan’s on shift, staff agree that they feel safer and more motivated. He is one of the most caring colleagues I have ever met. As a team we nominated so he could see how much we all appreciate his positive, hardworking attitude.”

Daniel has recently set up an initiative on the ward called ‘Float Your Boat’ where service users and staff are encouraged to write down positive comments about each other and showcase them on the wall. The initiative has been so successful that it is being considered for all the wards at The Becklin Centre.

Daniel said: “Float Your Boat is similar to something I’ve seen done before and I knew the positive impact it could have so I was keen to implement it on Ward 3. Working on the ward comes with its challenges but we’re a close knit team and we work well together. I’m overwhelmed to receive a Star Award. I really enjoy working here and it’s nice to be recognised in this way.”

At the presentation, Daniel was given a framed certificate, a letter from the Chair and Chief Executive and £100 of shopping vouchers. He will also receive two tickets to the Trust’s annual award ceremony.
