Congratulations to Umer, our STAR Award winner!

Our most recent Star Award winner is Umer Khan, Clinical Support Worker at 3 Woodland Square.

Umer was nominated by his team in the Learning Disability Inpatient Services for his person-centred approach and adaptability when working with service users. He also got a special mention in the CQC inspection feedback, something unheard of within the Trust.

The service is based at two sites within Leeds, but at Woodland Square, people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour visit for periods of respite.

Umer said: “When service users come to us, they’re only with us for a week so we try to make 3 Woodland Square as homely as possible. Service users can’t always express their thoughts and feelings, but their positive feedback comes from the smiles on their faces and because they keep coming back to us. Sometimes we also get feedback from their carers at home saying that they’re looking forward to their upcoming stay. It’s a very hands-on role. It’s difficult, but it’s fun and very rewarding.

“It feels great to win a Star Award! I’ve worked here for four years and just like helping people.”

Umer was awarded with a certificate, a letter from the chief executive and chair, and £100 of highstreet vouchers.
