Congratulations to Godwin, our STAR Award winner!

The most recent winner is Godwin Chideya, who has worked on the Low Secure Forensic Ward at The Newsam Centre as a staff nurse for four years.

It was his empathy and caring nature which stood out to the Star Award judging panel when it came to deciding on the monthly winner.

Godwin was not only nominated for his work on the ward and with service users, but for something that happened outside of work. Without thought for his own wellbeing, he pulled a service user to safety as they were attempting to commit suicide by jumping in front of a bus.

Andrew Boggan, Charge Nurse, nominated Godwin. He said: “Godwin deserves recognition from the Trust for his commitment to care. Saving this person’s life was an incredibly brave thing to do, and it shows the immense dedication he has for his job and to those he cares for.”

Not usually one lost for words, Godwin was left almost speechless during the presentation led by Susan Tyler, Director of Workforce Development.

Godwin explained: “I came in on my day off and thought I was needed in a serious meeting. I can’t believe it, I feel great! To be recognised like this is so uplifting.

“I like to get to know service users and think it’s important for them to get to know me, I shouldn’t be a stranger. If I understand their personalities I can weigh up their mood and uplift them if they need it. For me, everybody is equal and I treat each individual the same.”

The winner of each month’s award will receive £100 of High Street Gift Vouchers and a framed certificate at a surprise presentation. They will also be invited to the Trust’s Annual Award Ceremony.
