Bank workers positive feedback given national thumbs up
Positive feedback from temporary staff who work shifts on the Trust’s bank is some of the best in the NHS and has now been recognised nationally.
The Trust has a roster of around 500 workers known as its bank. These staff work shifts based on their availability and the needs of the service where there are vacant shifts.
In a report published earlier this year, the Trust’s bank workers reported improved results across all seven elements of the NHS People Promise, as well as improved results for staff engagement and morale. These results are potentially unprecedented across the NHS making LYPFT one of the best employers for bank workers.
The results have been recognised by Dr Ronke Akerele, Director of Staff Experience and Engagement at NHS England who has presented LYPFT with a special certificate (pictured).
Whilst this was the third year that the NHS has run a national staff survey for Bank only workers, LYPFT has been running their own since 2019 putting the Trust well ahead of the curve.
Bank workers reported significant improvements in the following areas between the 2024 and 2025 staff surveys:
- We are compassionate and inclusive
- We are recognised and rewarded
- We each have a voice that counts
- We are safe and healthy
- We are always learning – which saw the biggest improvement
- We work flexibly
- We are a team
- Staff engagement
- Morale
Sajimon Madathil, Temporary Staffing Manager at LYPFT, said: “These results are a testament to over six years of work to improve the working lives of our bank staff.
“At the centre of it has been the introduction of the bank forum – a regular meeting where we can engage constructively with bank workers to listen and act on their concerns. It’s also became a good learning and development space too.
“This is a great team effort by the People and Organisational Development directorate, and we should be proud of these results.”
Trust recognises impact of Bank Colleagues
As part of its efforts to recognise the contributions of bank staff, the Trust held its first ever Bank Colleague Impact Awards in 2025 which saw 36 bank workers receive nominations for awards from the care service staff and service users they work with.
Winners included Juliet Ebu (pictured) who was nominated by Ward 2 at the Newsam Centre but also works across other services too.
She was described by service users in her nomination as “an absolute star . . . She helps everyone, makes time for each of us and is always approachable . . . She goes above and beyond every shift.”
Darren Skinner, Director of People and OD at LYPFT added: “I am absolutely delighted – the results are truly fantastic. Seeing the organisation achieve improvements across all seven elements of the People Promise, alongside strengthened staff engagement and morale, is a remarkable accomplishment and one that deserves real celebration.
“This level of progress across every theme is no small feat. It reflects the passion, dedication and collective commitment of you and your teams to making our organisation a great place to work for Bank staff. You have clearly created momentum, and these results are a powerful indication of the positive culture we are trying to build together.”
