Fiona Venner

Constituency:Leeds City Council
appointed to the: Council of Governors

I have been a Labour Councillor on Leeds City Council since 2014, where I represent Kirkstall ward in West Leeds. I have been the Cabinet Member for Children and Families since 2019 and have recently taken on the additional responsibility of the Adult Social Care and Health Partnerships portfolio.

Prior to this, I was the Chief Executive of multi award winning mental health charity, Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service, an organisation I led for 15 years. I worked in mental health for 25 years, always in the voluntary sector and predominantly in acute settings. This included working with homeless people with mental health problems in London, managing the Suicide and Self Harm Team at 42nd Street, a Manchester based charity supporting young people and serving as the Deputy Chief Executive of Leeds Mind. I have also worked as a volunteer psychotherapist in several Leeds counselling services.

I will bring my experience and passion for mental health work to my role as Governor and my commitment to survivor led, community based services and alternatives to diagnostic approaches to mental distress.
