Carole Myers

Constituency: Service User: Leeds
elected to the: Council of Governors

My passion is to see lived experienced voices heard within mental health services. I joined the LYPFT Service User Network (SUN) group in September 2021 as I believed this to be a brilliant way of achieving my objectives. Then in April 2024 I was appointed as a co-chair for the SUN group.

I am very passionate about seeing the culture change of Trauma Informed care being delivered across the Trust. I have had experience of a long-term therapy of 12 years as I suffered from having a traumatic childhood and young adulthood. I have read extensively on the topic of Trauma, have done training and attended conferences. I campaigned for a lived experience Complex Trauma group within the Trust, a subgroup for Complex Trauma is now coming into fruition.

In the 90’s I used my experiences to serve as a trustee for Leeds Mental Health Advocacy, I was co-opted onto the Community Health Council. I was in various women’s groups, campaign groups, service user networks and a member of the national Mind group. In 2017 I experienced accessing the Improving Access to Psychological Therapy service.

I am now involved with Transformation with the LYFPT. I believe in Co-Production. I have attended training with Lisa Cherry on Co-Production. She leads the West Yorkshire Adversity, Trauma and Resilience group to which I am a member. In addition, I have worked in Early Years Education for 37 years. I feel it is an honour to be a Service User Governor for the LYPFT.
