Dr Nagulan Thevarajan is Consultant Psychiatrist and Service Clinical Lead for the adolescent inpatient service of LYPFT in York. Since the opening of the unit in 2015, he has developed the service to be a regional centre for offering second opinions on complex cases for NHS England.

Dr Thevarajan is a serious incident (SI) investigator for LYPFT and a specialist advisor for SI investigations conducted in other organisations. He uses this experience to improve quality of service in the adolescent inpatient unit, which is also his area of research interest.

Dr Thevarajan is an appraiser for doctors and the consultant BMA representative for his organisation. He is an examiner with the Royal College of Psychiatry clinical topics panel and trained to accredit CAMHS inpatient units (QNIC). He is approved by the deanery to train and recruit core psychiatry trainees and CAMHS higher trainees. He has recently been appointed by the justice department as a Fee-paid Medical Member of the First-tier Tribunal.

Dr Thevarajan worked with the THET charity through which he provided training and supervision to CAMHS clinicians in Uganda. He is currently using this experience to contribute to a social enterprise called ‘Beatroots Creative’ as a non-executive director.
