Health professionals and the general public are being invited to an event in Leeds city centre to encourage people to talk about end of life.

Health professionals and the general public are being invited to an event in Leeds city centre to encourage people to talk about end of life. The Dying Matters event is being held on Tuesday 9 May at Leeds City Museum between 11am and 3pm.

The event will provide an opportunity to explore an issue that may people shy away from, meaning our wishes around end of life aren’t always known or acted on. The event aims to get people talking about it, and to take practical steps, under the theme of “What can you do?” There will be a chance to meet a range of organisations providing care, support and services, plus short films, talks and refreshments. You can find out about a range of topics from making wills and organising funerals, to hospices and bereavement support.

Dying Matters Leeds is a partnership of organisations, including the NHS CCGs, NHS providers, Leeds City Council and the third sector, that work together to break down the taboo that surrounds talking about death and dying and to encourage people to make plans for their end of life to ensure everyone has a ‘good death’. It recently received a national award from the National Council for Palliative Care in recognition of its work.
