Trust's Voluntary Services Team awarded kitemark

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Voluntary Services Team have been given a stamp of approval for providing a ‘high quality, positive volunteering experience.’

The service has been awarded a kitemark for promoting volunteering in Leeds and following good practice.

The mark of excellence is valid for two years and is awarded by Volunteer Centre Leeds. Members of the Leeds Volunteer Managers’ Network judge each application.

It sets us apart from other organisations and will be promoted by Volunteer Centre Leeds as they help volunteers to make informed choices about which organisation to apply to.

The Trust currently has around 140 volunteers providing invaluable support to its services, helping with everything from meet and greets to social activities on the wards and projects to promote mental wellbeing.

Christine Heath, Voluntary Services Manager, said: “The Trust’s volunteers bring an extra dimension to the excellent care that service users receive and they play a very important role in a range of areas.

“Volunteering can help people gain new skills and experience, and in the Trust, we have been successful in helping volunteers to achieve their goals which include applying for paid employment and getting a job.”

Volunteers are supported and supervised throughout their time with the Trust and are provided with a bespoke induction. In return, they sign up to a written set of expectations.

“The Voluntary Services Department has an efficient and timely recruitment process that includes mutual expectations,” Christine Heath added.

“Volunteers are asked at interview what they wish to gain from the role and what they can bring to the role. This ensures that the role is suited to both parties and that the volunteer will gain experience from it.

“I am delighted that we have received this kitemark award. It shows the credibility of Voluntary Services and the appreciation we show our volunteers.”
