Congratulations to Fiona, our STAR Award winner!

The most recent winner is Fiona Pickard, Health Care Assistant, on Riverfields ward at Clifton House in York.

Fiona was praised by Ward Manager, Graham Fox,  in the nomination which led to her award win.

Graham said: “Fiona has a passion to see all patients receive the best care we are able to give. She recently introduced the Safe Wards initiative to help all service users have more safe and effective relationships.”

The Safe Wards model identifies a range of interventions which are proved to make a difference. These can be as simple as setting clear mutual expectations, using soft words, mitigating bad news, mutual help and increasing mutual understanding, using calm down methods and providing reassurance.

Fiona has worked at the Trust since 2013 and on Riverfields ward for more than two years. She was presented with her award by Susan Tyler, Director of Workforce Development.

Fiona said: “I am totally surprised to win a STAR Award, it is so unexpected! I am not usually stuck for words.

“My passion comes from within as I’ve cared for people for as long as I can remember. I enjoy helping people and I try my best to learn new things everyday which will benefit those in my care.

“My outlook is that if I can help make a positive difference to someone then that is a reward in itself! I want to thank all my colleagues on the Riverfield ward for their continued support. The STAR Award is as much for them as it is for me.”
