Living with an eating disorder
Each person’s experience with an eating disorder is unique – shaped by their background, challenges, and personal journey to recovery. Yet, the struggle remains deeply impactful.
Anorexia Nervosa is one of the deadliest mental health illnesses, yet like many eating disorders, it is often surrounded by stigma, misunderstanding, and stereotypes.
Leeds Recovery College supports the delivery of Living with an Eating Disorder, a workshop led by Helen, who will share her personal story, shedding light on both the struggles and the ongoing journey of recovery.
The aims of the workshop include:
- Having a better awareness and understanding of eating disorders
- Learning different tools that may help support people with eating disorders
- Understanding how an eating disorder can impact everyday life
- Understand what people need from loved ones, practitioners and doing practical tasks based on this.
Living with any mental health illness can be very isolating and terrifying but since being discharged from treatment, Helen has been keen to deliver this workshop, and make a difference in helping others gain knowledge, a good understanding of eating disorders and putting that important message across that you are not on your own.
This course is open to everyone, whether you have lived experience of Living with an Eating Disorder or not – and the content will be relatable to those living with an Eating Disorder and those supporting someone living with an Eating Disorder in both personal and professional settings.
