I became the Chair of our Trust on 1 April 2017.

What I do

I am the Chair of the Trust Board.  As Chair, along with the non-executive directors, my role is to hold the Chief Executive and her executive team to account for the delivery of the organisation’s strategic aims and objectives.  I chair the Board of Directors, the Council of Governors, the Remuneration Committee, the Nominations Committee and the governors’ Appointments and Remuneration Committee. I am also the named Non-executive Director Champion for safeguarding.

How I contribute to improving the experience of service users and carers

My expertise is in leadership development, corporate and clinical governance, safeguarding, strategic planning and delivery. I have a passion for improving services for service users and carers by working in partnership with them.

My experience

I have over 35 years of experience in health care; qualifying as a nurse in 1987 and a midwife in 1990.  I have an MSc in Nursing and a PhD in Health Services Research, both from the University of Bradford. I am also a Visiting Professor at Leeds Beckett University. I have extensive leadership experience in the NHS, including seven years as an executive director, and four years as a non-executive director.  From 2010 to 2013 I was Chief Officer at the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds.

Currently, I am Independent Chair of the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board and Chair of a new charity in Leeds, Day One Trauma Support which provides holistic support for patients and families affected by major trauma.

I am also a Director for SR Proctor Business Consulting Ltd which is an independent company offering consultancy on specific projects relating to complex and strategic matters working with Boards and senior teams in health and faith sectors. This work includes investigations into current and historical safeguarding matters.
