Children and Young People Services

Select each subheading below to highlight the different sections of our plan on a page. This will outline how our Children and Young People Services is planning to deliver care during 2024.

1. Where are we now?
  • Red Kite View is having a positive impact on young people’s lives in West Yorkshire. Fewer out of area admissions, shorter length of stays and fewer young people requiring intensive psychiatric care.
  • Mill Lodge consistently delivers excellent care for children in Humber and North Yorkshire. A sister service is developing an eating disorder service offer. An Alternative to Hospital service aims to reduce length of stays and the number of inpatient admissions.
  • National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services continue to deliver excellent care, front running with service development and career opportunities particular for deaf members of staff. A two year pilot project to assess 18-25 year olds continues in its development.
2. Where do we want to be in 12-18 months' time?
  • Improving Red Kite View, exploring out-reach models of care to reduce length of stay and working in new and collaborative ways with social care and community teams.
  • Fully implementing the Alternative to Hospital service at Mill Lodge. Reviewing and developing this service to best meet the needs of children and young people in Humber and North Yorkshire. Developing our care models and progressing with trauma-informed care.
  • Fully delivering our pilot assessment service for 18-25 year olds, understanding their needs, and working with research and development colleagues to explore a full assessment and treatment offer.
3. How we are going to get there
  • Collaborative working with system partners to fully understand the service offer.
  • Work closely with staff to improve health and wellbeing, alongside our highly experienced staff members, making ours the service of choice for new and developing staff.
4. How we will improve service user and carer experience
  • Further develop and establish parent and carer groups and ensure they can make improvements where needed to service user experience.
5. How we will improve staff experience
  • Do an in-depth review of our staff survey and pulse survey results to plan improvements.
  • Embed the wellbeing steering group within Red Kite View and consider roll out across the service.
  • Review the way in which we use digital systems, working with digital change to streamline our work and reduce duplication.
6. How we will reduce health inequalities and improving equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Completing the actions from our health inequalities analysis.
  • Completing audits of our estate to ensure they best meet the needs of our neurodiverse population.
