Max is an Associate Professor in the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences (LIHS) University of Leeds, and Senior Clinical Lead for Research & Development in the Trust.

Max is particularly interested in the overlap between physical health, mental health and employment. His PhD examined life course risk factors for long term sickness absence. He has published almost 100 papers and book chapters. Max has advised Dept of Health, Dept for Work & Pensions, Public Health England and the Chief Medical Officer.

He currently sits on the HTA Prioritisation Committee of NIHR.
